Your mission

The Engineering Manager for the Screening & Risk Services team will lead the development and maintenance of Bitpanda's critical back-end risk infrastructure — including real-time transaction and user screening engines, compliance data-pipelines, alerting and case-management tooling, and integrations with external sanctions / watchlist / identity-verification data providers. This role blends technical oversight with strategic vision: you will define the technical roadmap and enable your team to build scalable, secure, high-throughput systems, as well as overseeing engineering delivery. You will collaborate closely with Compliance, Fraud/Risk Operations, Finance, and other internal stakeholders, ensuring risk-detection logic remains effective, up-to-date, and aligned with evolving regulatory requirements.

• Define technical roadmaps, and work with a product manager to groom the backlog factoring in technical debt and prioritisation of impactful services.
• Lead, grow, and inspire your team to perform at the highest level, and successfully deliver their best in a fast-paced environment.
• Facilitate daily scrum meetings, sprint planning, reviews, and retrospectives to ensure agile practices are effectively implemented and continuously improved.
• Work closely with other managers, stakeholders, and teams across the organisation to ensure that the microservices architecture aligns with the broader company objectives.
• Perform regular 1:1 with your team members to develop career plans and goals. Help your team to maintain resilience in periods of change and ambiguity.

• You have the ability to lead teams effectively, provide guidance in ambiguous situations, influence technical discussions and are able to contribute to the development and future growth of software engineers.
• You have experience in a technical leadership role with demonstrated deep knowledge of the development of digital products, good understanding of software architecture all the way from experimentation to continuous improvement in an agile environment.
• Capability to perform regular performance reviews and derive new development goals or improvement strategies. Hands-on personality, self-driven, somebody who likes to be involved rather than sitting on the sidelines.
• You have touched upon financial services before and are eager to grow in this domain.
• Familiarity with Java/PHP, distributed/event driven systems, message brokers such as Kafka and microservices architecture are a huge bonus.
